Changes to My Puppy Reservation Process

Writer: Vanessa MarieVanessa Marie

In the past, I have done my best to keep interested families updated on upcoming litters and availability. However, after much consideration, I have decided to refine this process to make it more manageable for both myself and future puppy owners. Here’s why I’ve made this change and how it will benefit everyone involved.

Why the Change?

Over time, I’ve noticed that many people are interested in specific colours or sexes, leading to some families waiting for a long time, while other puppies have fewer inquiries. I also want to clarify that I do not plan litters based on demand—my breeding decisions are based on careful selection and the long-term health and quality of my dogs, not on requests for certain traits or colours.

Additionally, I have chosen not to take deposits far in advance, as this practice is often associated with scams, or commercial and large-scale breeders securing future sales. As a small breeder, I believe in a more ethical approach—one that prioritises the well-being of the dogs and responsible placement over financial commitments before a puppy is even born.

A More Practical Approach

Moving forward, I will no longer be trying to keep a list of interested families far in advance. Instead, I will be sharing details about upcoming or already born litters as they happen. This change allows for a clearer and more efficient process, without the pressure of guaranteeing specific sexes or colours years in advance.

I understand that some of you have favourite pairings or are particularly interested in certain breeding dogs, and you are still welcome to follow upcoming litters involving them. However, I will not be taking reservations for puppies long before they exist.

Keeping in Touch

To ensure a smooth and efficient process, I ask that prospective families take the initiative to stay in touch regarding their interest in our puppies. This means that while I won't be following up on applications, I encourage you to reach out periodically to demonstrate your ongoing interest. Your proactive approach helps us keep things moving forward and ensures you don’t miss out on available puppies.

Available Puppies

Please remember that we are not a pet shop or commercial breeder, and we do not have puppies available all the time. Available puppies typically don’t last long, especially if they’re a good match for a prospective family. If you are genuinely interested in welcoming a Shiba Inu into your life and can responsibly care for one, please don’t hesitate to reach out. The sooner you connect, the better your chances of finding your perfect match.

How to Stay Updated

I will soon be launching a Future Litters page where you can find details on upcoming breedings and available puppies. Once it is live, you will be able to check it regularly for the latest updates. In the meantime, if a particular pairing or puppy interests you, feel free to reach out, and we can arrange a visit to meet the dogs, see the environment (approved applicants only), and discuss the process further. Additionally, we post regular updates to our Facebook and Instagram social pages, which you are welcome to follow.

I believe this new system will create a better experience for both myself and future puppy owners. Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in Orienta Shiba Inu!
